Manchester United transfer 'target' Victor Boniface has seen his Bayer Leverkusen contract extended. The Nigeria striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford as Ruben Amorim attempts to bolster his squad.

According to reports from Sky Sports Germany, the 24-year-old's deal at the BayArena has now been increased by a further year until summer 2029, with the striker set for a bumper salary.

The report added that, however, a sale is still possible after this new deal - amid links with United. It's claimed that the former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and Bodo/Glimt star would cost at least £42million.

He has scored 29 goals and provided 11 assists in 49 appearances, across all competitions for Leverkusen, since arriving for £18.6m in 2023. Last season, Boniface helped Leverkusen go the entire Bundesliga season unbeaten, reach the Europa League final and win the DFB-Pokal and DFL-Supercup.

While transfer talk surrounds Boniface, he could make a return to action for Leverkusen against RB Leipzig on Saturday. "Yes. He is in the squad," Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso told a press conference when asked whether Boniface could start after missing the last 12 matches due to injury.

This is not the first time Boniface has been linked with a move to United. A summer switch was touted - before United signed Joshua Zirkzee - but the Leverkusen forward might have snubbed any transfer. This is because he expressed his lack of enthusiasm for playing in England in September.

He said: "I don't really like the Premier League. I've said this before.

"So, I prefer Spanish football, German football. I'm not saying if, for example, a good team comes for me then I will not go, but I'm just saying if you asked me to pick two countries I really want to live and play in - then it's Germany and Spain."
