Marcus Rashford’s future remains unclear as Manchester United weigh up their January transfer plans.

The club have no budget for this month’s market and so need to offload players if they are to acquire much-needed reinforcement. Rashford could be one of those to leave following his four-match squad exile in December.

The attacker has also ambiguously admitted he was ready for a “next challenge”. Head coach Ruben Amorim says he read that as him looking towards a new era at United, but that is not certain.

Rashford has rejected approaches from Saudi Arabia this month already and has ruled out a switch to Turkey but there is bound to be more interest in the 27-year-old as the weeks progress towards deadline day.

PSG ‘cool’ links with Rashford

Paris Saint-Germain have distanced themselves with interest in Rashford, says ESPN. The club are thought to be open to new arrivals in January but a mid-season punt on Rashford looks unlikely given his wages.

His reported £350,000-a-week pay packet will be a hurdle for United in offloading the 27-year-old in January, unless the club agrees to pay a large portion of his salary via a loan deal - but that would put United in a worse financial position.

MEN Sport says: Rashford wants to move to a competitive club to keep his hopes of re-entering the England squad alive. The reality is, he will have to take a pay cut to do that if PSG do not oblige.

Barcelona cannot afford him, Real Madrid don’t need him and Bayern Munich have little room. But in order for United to operate in January - and surely they cannot afford not to - Rashford would likely need to move on. A bit of a predicament.

Cunha ‘not for sale’

Wolves are reportedly going to play hardball over any approaches for Matheus Cunha in January despite links with United. Cunha usually plays behind the striker or as the forward itself but has the ability to play on the flank and cut inside.

New boss Wolves Vitor Pereira has said he is keen for the 25-year-old to stay and it seems the club hierarchy feel the same way. Cunha has netted 10 times in the Premier League this season - more than Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee combined.

MEN Sport says: United’s best chance to land Cunha looks to be in the summer, although by that time they might have greater competition. A January steal would be a real coup but would also be real costly.

In reality, perhaps only Rashford’s sale would drum up enough funds Wolves would demand for Cunha and for United to stay within spending limits.
