Manchester United boss Ruben Amorin will now have a clear understanding of what his team needs to be successful following a difficult opening two months.

In his opening 12 games, Amorim has only managed four wins at United and has suffered six defeats. Disappointing results to Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Wolves have resulted in talk of a possible relegation from the Premier League.

But Sunday's 2-2 draw at Liverpool and 2-1 win over Manchester City before Christmas has provided some belief that the Portuguese is the right man to return United to the pinnacle of world football. To do that, the squad needs overhauling.

United aren't expected to be busy in the January transfer window with there being no budget available. After investing over £205million on five signings in the summer, there is going to be a struggle to reinforce this window.

The club have to sell to buy amid their struggles to comply with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules. Plans are expected to be in place for the summer to start the rebuild of Amorim's squad.

Possibly the most alarming area within the team is at left-back. Luke Shaw's constant setbacks with injuries has meant United have been forced to play Diogo Dalot in the left wing-back role, who is naturally a right-back.

One player reportedly on Amorim's radar is Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez. The Hungary international has been superb for Andoni Iraola's side this season, earning his plaudits as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League so far.

The Cherries are expected to demand close to £50million should any potential suitor want to sign him. Liverpool and Chelsea have both been linked with a move for the 21-year-old with a change of agent sparking excitement over a potential big money move.

Bournemouth are high-flying in the Premier League and gunning for European football, so signing Kerkez could become more expensive at the end of the season. Fortunately for United, the Cherries may have just confirmed their acceptance at the deal.

The £12m signing of Julio Soler was confirmed on Friday with the 19-year-old signing a four-year contract at the Vitality Stadium. He arrives at the same age that Kerkez did in 2023 and for just £6m less than what Bournemouth paid AZ Alkmaar.

It means they will be prepared for any potential Kerkez exit in the summer, should United decide to raid the south coast. Kerkez's signing would be a big step towards Amorim's vision of replicating his tactical success from Sporting CP.
