Manchester United have already experienced the top-class attacking talents of young Porto striker Samu Aghehowa this season. The young forward would be an ideal target as the club go in search of a striker to inject life into their season.

Samu signed for Porto for just over £12million last summer from Atletico Madrid following a transfer saga that saw a potential move to Chelsea collapse.

Prior to his move to the Portuguese giants, the 20-year-old was a part of the Spain squad that won gold at the Olympic Games in Paris. His numbers are mightily impressive so far in his debut season in Portugal’s top division, having scored 13 goals in 14 league matches so far.

The Spaniard netted twice against United in October’s 3-3 draw in Porto with his best attributes on show in a game that saw United fight back to avoid embarrassment after letting their two-goal lead slip.

For his first goal of the night, Samu used his huge frame to see off Matthijs de Ligt before powering a header past Andre Onana. His second effort was a brilliant example of centre forward play, cutting across the penalty area before lashing home a pulled back cross.

These goals helped Samu shoot to the top of the Europa League scoring charts, where he is joined by current United striker Rasmus Højlund.

United are in need of some fresh attacking talent with the club having scored just 23 goals in the Premier League so far this season. Despite Porto experiencing financial woes in recent times, they will be reluctant to let their new star depart in his first season for anything less than a huge profit.

The striker’s contract runs until 2029 and he has a release clause of over £80million, a price United will not be able to meet in January unless significant funds are raised through player sales.

But one thing is for certain: Amorim’s side must score a lot more goals and Samu would be a solid option if they can add some money to their transfer kitty.
