What Man United players did after Harry Maguire's Liverpool miss speaks volumes
Manchester United players were inconsolable after Harry Maguire missed a golden opportunity to score in the final moments of their thrilling 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.
United were unrecognisable from the team that lost to Newcastle the previous Monday and took the lead thanks to a fierce strike from Lisandro Martinez. The home side equalised through Cody Gakpo and were in front when Mohamed Salah converted from the penalty spot with 20 minutes remaining.
Amad rescued a much-deserved point for United with ten minutes remaining, and they nearly snatched all three at the death. Substitute Joshua Zirkzee squared the ball to Maguire, inside the area, but he blasted his effort over the crossbar, much to the relief of the Merseyside faithful.

However, it is clear how distraught the United players were with the miss afterwards. As caught on Match of the Day 2, the back five - excluding Maguire and including Leny Yoro, were clearly angered by the miss as they put their hands to their heads and one player jumped up in anger before crashing to the ground.
Meanwhile, Andre Onana dropped to his knees in despair while Ruben Amorim dropped his head in disappointment. While Maguire did not win the game for the Reds, the result was merely a side note when you take into account how much of an improvement it was on previous matches.
Now, the challenge for United is to find some consistency and try to replicate that performance going forward. Next up for Amorim's side is another challenging trip as the Reds travel to face Arsenal in the FA Cup third round.
