Manchester United concluded their Europa League league phase on Thursday night and maintained their status as the only unbeaten club in the competition with a 2-0 win over Romanian side FCSB.

Second-half goals from Diogo Dalot and Kobbie Mainoo meant Ruben Amorim's men finished third in the league, one point off joint winners Lazio and Athletic Club. One of AZ Alkmaar, Midtjylland, Real Sociedad and Galatasaray will meet them in the last 16 following the conclusion of the play-off round.

United joined Lazio, Athletic Club, Tottenham, Eintracht Frankfurt, Lyon, Olympiacos and Rangers in the hat for the last 16 already. Finishing in the top eight means Ruben Amorim's men have avoided a double midweek round of fixtures in February.

There is also a financial benefit from finishing in the top eight and United have generated a total of £3.7million from their European campaign so far. Qualification for the last 16 brings in £1.47million with each win worth £379k and a draw just £126k.

United will also be due another sum from UEFA for their third-placed finish. Each position is worth £63.4k with the club finishing 36th earning that figure with an additional £63.4k added for every position higher. That means the Red Devils have netted a further £2.09m.

For finishing third, United will earn the club around £5.79m in bonus money so far. On top of the £3.64m gifted for their participation, the club are set to receive £9.4m and that's without the inclusion of ticket sales from the four matches. A further £22.5m is up for grabs for progressing to the final and winning the competition on May 21 in Bilbao.

With the January transfer window approaching its conclusion and much has been of United's financial constraints. Patrick Dorgu is close to becoming Amorim's first signing for the club but there is hope a new attacker could arrive before Monday's deadline.
