Manchester United were shown what they’re missing as Randal Kolo Muani continued his scintillating start to his Juventus loan spell.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the Paris Saint-Germain striker was on United’s radar during the January transfer window as they attempted to solve their chronic goalscoring issues. Subsequent reports claimed United wanted to sign the 26-year-old on loan with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

However, a deal failed to materialise for Kolo Muani, who was also wanted by Tottenham but instead joined Juve for the rest of the season. The France international has made a flying start to life in Serie A with five goals in his first three games, an impressive feat considering his last appearance for PSG, who paid Eintracht Frankfurt £76million for his services, was back on December 6.

On Friday night, he hit both Juve goals as they triumphed 2-1 at Como, who are managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas. In a tight game, Kolo Muani opened the scoring on 34 minutes with a finish which left TNT Sports commentator Matt Smith purring.

As Kolo Muani found the net from a tight angle following a jinking run, Smith declared: “Oh he couldn’t, could he? He could, wow! How about that? You don’t have to control games when you’ve got a striker like that. Three games, four goals for the new recruit at Juventus.”

The fifth goal - and the match-winner - arrived from the penalty spot in the 89th minute after Como had levelled through Assane Diao on the stroke of half-time.

Upon joining Juve, Kolo Muani said his decision was partly motivated by the club’s rich history with top French players, including former United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, he said: "Among the many French players who have written the history of Juventus, I can't help but mention [Zinedine] Zidane, but also [David] Trezeguet. Coming to more recent times, I would say Paul Pogba and obviously Khephren Thuram, who is doing very well here."

United’s January interest in another forward, Mathys Tel, also came to nothing, with the Bayern Munich star joining Tottenham instead. But there was a timely boost for one of the club’s existing strikers, Joshua Zirkee, who hit the equaliser in Friday’s FA Cup victory over Leicester City.
