Saudi Pro League suitors of Marcus Rashford must move players on before being able to recruit more during the winter transfer window. The league has confirmed that all 18 clubs cannot sign additional foreign players without making space in their squads for them.

Teams in the Saudi top tier can only register eight foreign players over 21 in their squads. However, they can also have two overseas players aged 21 or under.

Rashford's future at Old Trafford remains up in the air, having been left out of Ruben Amorim's last four matchday squads, but was spotted heading into the ground ahead of tonight's clash with Newcastle United.

The Reds forward has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in recent weeks, though reports claim United will struggle to offload the striker in the upcoming January transfer window. A latest statement from the Saudi Pro League has only highlighted a potential hurdle for United to overcome, if Rashford is to leave the club.

The SPL has acknowledged that clubs must "terminate contracts, sell players, or deregister squad members" before registering new foreign players in January. "The SPL will work closely with clubs and the Financial Sustainability Committee to ensure compliance with league policies and regulations," a league statement read.

The league said it had held a series of "intensive workshops" with its clubs to "assess their specific needs and objectives for the winter transfer window". "These workshops aim to provide tailored support to clubs, enabling them to continue achieving success on and off the pitch," the statement said.

Earlier this month, talkSPORT reported that Al-Ahli, Al-Ittihad and Al-Qadsiah had all expressed interest in Rashford - all three of whom have fulfilled their foreign player quota. The former boasts the likes of Edouard Mendy, Frank Kessie, Gabri Veiga, Ivan Toney, Merih Demiral, Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino and Roger Ibanez.

Al-Ittihad has nine foreign players over 21, but Luiz Felipe was unregistered due to his early-season injury, and the former Lazio defender has reportedly rescinded his contract. The club's eight registered players are Danilo Pereira, Fabinho, Houssem Aouar, Karim Benzema, Moussa Diaby, N'Golo Kante, Predrag Rajkovic and Danilo Pereira.

Al-Qadsiah are recently promoted to the top flight and bolstered its squad during the summer. The team now includes Cameron Puertas, Ezequiel Fernandez, Gaston Alvarez, Julian Quinones, Koen Casteels, Nacho, Nahitan Nandez, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
