Christian Eriksen's football career could be over according to countryman Thomas Gravesen.

The Danish veteran, who survived a cardiac arrest on the pitch during Euro 2020 before making a remarkable return to top level football with Inter Milan, Brentford and then the Red Devils, has played just 13 times in the English Premier League this season - and has found game time even harder to come by since Ruben Amorim's appointment. He turns 33 on February 14, with former Celtic midfielder Gravesen fearing his United career is now over, and speculating that it could even be the end of his playing days altogether.

Speaking about the 140 cap midfielder, who was linked with a move to Parkhead last month, Gravesen told Tipsbladet in Denmark: "It's 100 percent over for Christian Eriksen at Manchester United this summer, and I also fear that his career is over. Where is he going to go? Where is he going to go and earn 60 million kroner (£6m) a year? I have a hard time seeing that.

"Yes, he has probably earned the money he should, but I think that the development that Christian has been in the last few years is downward. It is sad to see the situation that Christian Eriksen is in. He is one of the players in Denmark who has given us the most. He has shone and been our best man, so it is sad if his career ends like this."

Eriksen remains one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Danish national side, but Gravesen believes that now has to change if he isn't playing regular club football. He continued: "have always said that if you are going to be a Danish national team player, you have to play regularly for the club team.

"It is a terrible scenario for Christian Eriksen at the moment, where he is hardly playing for Manchester United. Eriksen has been a fantastic player for Denmark, but I simply do not believe that you should be selected on your merits. I would not select Christian Eriksen for the upcoming matches."
