Managing Chelsea - Liam Delap signs, four leave and Alejandro Garnacho transfer decision made
We are now into the final two weeks of the 2025 January transfer window and we are still waiting on Chelsea to secure their first signing of the year.
Overall, it has been a positive season in the Premier League for the Blues, who climbed back into the top four with a win over Wolves on Monday night. After 22 games, the west Londoners sit in fourth-place, two points above champions Manchester City, who they travel to face at the weekend.
However, some supporters believe Chelsea need to act in the mid-season transfer window in order to not jeopardise this season. Many believe the Blues need to add another striker to their ranks with Nicolas Jackson's goals drying up recently. With that said, football.london take a look at what needs to be done before the transfer window reaches its conclusion in the early stages of next month.

Delap signs to help Jackson
Chelsea are interested in signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town with the Blues long-term admirers of the 21-year-old striker, football.london understands. The Man City academy graduate has been of interest to the west London club for some time now and following a really impressive season with Ipswich, there is plenty of teams after the centre-forward's signature.
The Tractor Boys are currently sitting in 18th in the top-flight table and fighting for a place in the division next season, so selling their star striker does not really fall under their interests between now and the end of the window. However, money does talk in football - as we all know - and if Chelsea can prise Delap away from Portman Road for a significant fee, then it will undoubtedly help the club secure Champions League football for the 2025/26 campaign.
The club are keen to ease the burden on Jackson, who has started 20 of Chelsea's 22 matches in the Premier League this season. The 23-year-old is now without a goal in his last six outings but it is hard not to feel a bit of sympathy for the Senegal international given how much reliance the Blues currently have on him due to of a lack of options elsewhere for the No.9 role.
Delap certainly fits the Chelsea mould. A young, talented and hungry striker who would be eager to make a name for himself before next year's World Cup, where he will be hoping to impress newly-appointed England manager Thomas Tuchel before the German selects his Three Lions squad. At a club like Chelsea, with no disrespect intended to Ipswich, it is much easier to do just that.
Garnacho decision made
Chelsea are exploring and considering their options in regards to bringing a new left winger to the club, football.london understands. The Blues have a shortlist of players that have been identified and the club is pondering whether to make a move during this window or perhaps wait until the summer, when business is a little bit easier to do by all accounts.
Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United is a target for the west London club - so much so, that his agents were spotted at Stamford Bridge for the win against Wolves on Monday night. football.london reported last week that Garnacho, as well as Jamie Gittens of Borussia Dortmund, are targets for the Blues for this window or the summer; the decision has not been made yet.
Likewise, Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich is also someone the club have held discussions about in recent weeks. Mykhailo Mudryk is currently suspended from football by the FA after failing a drugs test last month, leaving Chelsea rather short when it comes to left wing options.
Pedro Neto started out there against his former club Wolves on Monday but head coach Enzo Maresca sees the Portugal international as more of a right winger. Jadon Sancho has started the majority of games on the left and the Blues want to provide support and competition to the Manchester United loanee with Mudryk's future at Stamford Bridge far from certain.
Five players leave
If you would have asked me a week ago, I would be writing something about Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall leaving the club. However, Dewsbury-Hall will have some value to Maresca in the coming weeks with injuries to other midfielders hampering the Chelsea head coach when it comes to team selection.
Elsewhere, there are a few players expected to leave the club before the end of the transfer window. Ben Chilwell is one of them, although it has gone rather quiet in terms of speculation over the left-back. The 28-year-old is deemed surplus to requirements in SW6 and Maresca has told the defender he needs to find a new club if he wishes to play regular first-team football.
Renato Veiga is also looking likely to leave Chelsea in the near future. There are plenty of interested parties in the 21-year-old Portuguese, with Italian giants Juventus the latest club to express a keen interest in the Blues defender. It would leave Chelsea rather short at left-back, but recalling Caleb Wiley from his loan at Strasbourg is an option for the west Londoners.
That would also open the door to Carney Chukwuemeka moving to Chelsea's sister club on loan until the end of the season. football.london reported earlier this month that the 21-year-old has the option of moving to Strasbourg on loan until the end of the season with the midfielder not part of Maresca's plans currently.
Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco have also enquired about Chukwuemeka and have floated the idea of a loan deal. Chelsea, though, would rather sell the former Aston Villa midfielder in this window - but would accept no less than the £40million release clause inserted in his contract.
Cesare Casadei is expected to leave the club soon. The Italian midfielder has plenty of interest in Serie A and Torino have recently overtaken Lazio as the front-runners for the 22-year-old's signature.
