Managing Leeds United - Illan Meslier decision, new £4m striker, Andrew Omobamidele signs
There is unlikely to be an overwhelming influx of new faces at Elland Road this January given Daniel Farke’s recent transfer admission.
"I don't like when the group is too big,” the Leeds United boss said last week. "Once everyone is fit and you have four players for one position, it could also be negative for the spirit and the togetherness.
"If you are forced to do something due to injuries or something is really missing in the group, then you have to react but when you're sitting at the top of the table - there can't be too much wrong."

However, there are a number of questions that need answering. Concerns have been raised over whether Illan Meslier has the risk management skills to help Leeds secure automatic promotion following two costly errors in last weekend’s 3-3 draw at Hull City.
Meanwhile, Patrick Bamford’s future remains unclear, having failed to start a single Championship match this season. There are potentially a host of acquisition opportunities too, if Leeds can get their ducks in a row.
Goalkeeper decision
It’s easy to forget Meslier has kept 14 clean sheets in 26 Championship games, with only Burnley’s James Trafford keeping more (16 in 25 matches). But the issue is what happens in the games where he does concede.
For all of the close-shave saves he has made this season, there are just as many moments of spillage - his Jordan Pickford-eqsue blunder against Hull and that bizarre air catch against Sunderland back in October being just two examples.
Both cost Leeds points and while they are top of the tree, the gap could be so much more than a single point. Still, it seems premature to rid of Meslier altogether - after all he does have Premier League experience.
There are reports that the club are willing to offload the Frenchman, but to do that mid-season without a certified replacement seems negligent. Perhaps a new goalkeeper who can push him for his starting spot would tighten up the errors with a view of reviewing options in the summer.
New striker
With Hull-linked Joe Gelhardt probably on his way having not played since October, coupled with a possible Bamford exit, a new striker is evidently needed. Joel Piroe ought to not be spooned out of his first-choice position but should he suffer injury, it would leave Mateo Joseph as the only natural centre-forward option.
The 21-year-old has put in some noble shifts from the bench but hasn’t scored since October. Leeds have been linked with Hoffenheim forward Mergim Berisha, although these connections have cooled in recent days.
Maccabi Tel-Aviv striker Dor Turgeman is another thought to be on Farke’s radar. After scoring 11 times in 49 matches last season, the 21-year-old is already one goal away from matching that tally this campaign after 23 outings.
Israeli media reported last month that Tel-Aviv were looking for more than £4m for Turgeman, given he does not have a buy-out clause. That may mean Leeds using funds from the exits of Gelhardt and Bamford - whose injury may now make him less appealing - to acquire him.
Either way, Turgeman would likely be more impactful on Leeds’ season than the aforementioned duo.
Double defender delight
Leeds are said to be locking horns with Sheffield United over the signing of Nottingham Forest defender Andrew Omobamidele. To help manoeuvre within spending limits, it has been suggested that the deal could be a loan with an obligation to buy in the summer.
The Republic of Ireland international, 22, has only played once this season and seems to have been deemed surplus to requirements by Nuno Espirito Santo. Omobamidele already knows Farke, who handed him his Norwich City debut in January 2021.
He went on to play 14 more games under the German coach, including four Premier League matches. It is unknown what Leeds will make of Forest’s reported £10m price tag.
Meanwhile, tying Junior Firpo down to a new deal will be high on the agenda given his current contract expires this summer. Sam Byram has filled in well at left-back but Firpo is undoubtedly Farke’s strongest natural option in the role.
Allowing him to leave this summer, and for nothing, would not only be scolding but leave Farke with a hole to plug, given his scarce usage of Isaac Schmidt.
