Manchester United youngster Ruben Curley is joining Stoke City on a permanent transfer.

Curley's contract at United expires at the end of the season and Championship club Stoke made a late offer for the midfielder on transfer deadline day, which has been accepted.

United feel it makes sense to move Curley on now to bank something for the academy product and a move to Stoke will provide the 19-year-old with a chance to kick on in his career.

The Manchester Evening News understands the fee involved is nominal, so the deal wasn't sanctioned for profit and sustainability rules (PSR), but there are clauses inserted into the deal that could see United receive fees in the future, depending on how Curley's career develops.

United didn't plan to trigger the one-year extension in Curley's deal and he will be wished all the best by staff as he embarks on his next chapter after coming through the academy.

It's also thought Curley will be a signing for Stoke's academy system, instead of their first-team.

Curley was present in several first-team training sessions at Carrington last season and has taken part in a handful of sessions this term. He signed a minor contract extension just a few months ago - but that expires at the end of the campaign, albeit the option for another year was included.

Although some players struggle to recover from ACL injuries, Curley made a full recovery from the injury he picked up in August 2022 and will now attempt to progress with Stoke.
