Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim insists the club do not have the possibility to strengthen in the January transfer window.

United have lost ten games already this season and are 14th in the Premier League, only seven points above the relegation zone, ahead of a daunting trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

Amorim's side travel to Arsenal in the FA Cup third round next week and United's domestic campaign could effectively be over before the end of January unless they are dragged into a relegation battle for the first time in 51 years.

Club sources have said United have no budget to strengthen their squad in the New Year and they are dependent on selling players to finance any incomings. Amorim echoed that after United lost for the fifth time in their last six games at home to Newcastle United.

"We don’t have that possibility in January," he said. "You know the situation better than I [do]. It’s not the case I am not arriving here and I can spend a lot of money, changing all the team. You know the situation so it’s not a point to talk about it."

Marcus Rashford was recalled to the squad for the first time in five matches but was an unused substitute against Newcastle. Rashford has outlined his desire for a "new challenge" elsewhere and could have played his last game for the club.

Amorim denied he was making a point by not turning to Rashford as United failed to score for the third match running. "I think about the team, you think a lot about Marcus. I think about the team.

"When I am there, I just want to win the game. I am talking about the idea and the fight for relegation, I just want to win the game."
