Manchester United could copy Liverpool transfer tactic to try and fix problem position
Manchester United should consider the possibility of signing Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis, according to former first-team coach Rene Meulensteen.
The left-back department has been a troublesome area for United over the last 18 months or so amid long-term injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia during that period.
Shaw, on Tuesday, confirmed that he was set for another spell on the sidelines as a result of a fresh injury setback. The defender made his first appearance in United colours since February against Ipswich a fortnight ago, offering hope that the worst of his injury troubles were over.

However, news of the 29-year-old's latest setback only further highlights the need for United to strengthen the left side of their defence as soon as possible. And in the opinion of Meulensteen, United should consider repeating Liverpool's move for Andy Robertson back in 2017 and swooping for Tractor Boys ace Davis.
Meulensteen, speaking to OLBG, said: "Luke Shaw's injury and there being some uncertainty over Tyrell Malacia, makes you think about the left-back department at Manchester United as an area that might need strengthening.
"One player that has impressed in the Premier League for Ipswich is Leif Davis, and there can be a lot of value in signing players that already know English football but aren't like signing a big name from Europe.
"He shouldn't be too expensive, but of course when United get involved the price goes way up, but the best example to follow is Andy Robertson to Liverpool from Hull. Another example is Lewis Hall at Newcastle, players with Premier League experience and bags of potential who could be a really good fit.
"Davis in particular is standing out in a promoted team, which is a really good sign, that shows the character that he has in his DNA."
Davis, who joined Ipswich from Leeds United in July 2022, has produced a series of solid performances for the Premier League newcomers so far this term, chipping in with one goal and two assists.
Incredibly attack-minded, the 24-year-old, who has been touted for an England call-up, played a starring role in Ipswich's promotion-winning campaign last term, registering 18 assists from left-back. He is more comfortable attacking than defending, potentially making him a tailor-made fit for the wing-back role at Old Trafford.
