Manchester United could make three risky selections vs Rangers amid transfer uncertainty
Manchester United and Rangers meet in European competition for the fifth time tonight and the first time in just over 14 years. Back then, the clubs duelled in the Champions League at the group stage.
United effectively need four points from their remaining two Europa League league matches to automatically qualify for the round-of-16 and avoid a two-legged play-off next month. They head to Bucharest to play FCSB next week.
The Europa League has to be the priority for a club that almost certainly will finish outside of the European qualifying places in the Premier League.

Here are five things to look out for at Old Trafford tonight:
Rashford's return?
Ruben Amorim can name a 23-man squad in Europa League games and Marcus Rashford was one of 20 outfield players training on Wednesday. United have a tendency to name multiple goalkeepers on the bench but Rashford was recalled to the squad against Newcastle when United had a depleted squad, so it is unlikely Amorim will snub him in favour of a rookie.
Home discomforts?
United have won one of their last five at home and in that win against Southampton they were minutes away from one of their most humiliating results in the Premier League era.
Teams are not intimidated by United at Old Trafford any more and Twente were well worth their point in September. PAOK had a chance and Bodo/Glimt gave United a run for their money. United could do with a comfortable evening after some uncomfortable nights.
Bayindir or Onana?
It was a risk to start Altay Bayindir in the FA Cup at Arsenal and his first hour was decidedly dodgy. After he superbly stretched to deny Martin Odegaard from the penalty spot, Bayindir had the finest hour of his professional career.
Few seriously believe United's actual No.1 can become the No.1 but Andre Onana has committed clanger after clanger since the start of December and the majority of United supporters have given up on him.
Bayindir's only appearances for United have been in domestic cup competitions and he is yet to have a kick in the Europa League.
Who's dropped?
This is maybe the worst team in United's history, according to Amorim. As bad as the team is, the squad depth is worse and it is nigh-on impossible to improve the starting XI despite their limp defeat to Brighton.
Lisandro Martinez, rested on Sunday, could be a shoo-in and Amorim has another fixture on Sunday to bear in mind but United also need the points to ensure they automatically qualify for the round-of-16 and avoid a two-legged play-off in February.
Antony, involved in training on Wednesday, is expected to join Real Betis on loan, Rashford could still leave on loan and Napoli are briefing optimistically about signing Alejandro Garnacho. Selecting all three would be borderline farcical.
An atmosphere to savour?
Manchester is a great city to visit for a European away. Almost every club takes up their full allocation of tickets and the heavy-duty contingent congregate outside Sinclair's Oyster Bar by Manchester Cathedral before walking down Deansgate, onto Chester Road and up to Old Trafford.
There will likely be more ticketless Rangers fans than those with tickets. Their visit will fill many Mancunians with dread after their antics in the city around the Uefa Cup final in 2008 and, as dire as the Scottish Premiership is, England-Scotland European ties are still an occasion to savour.
