Manchester United should not be targeting a move for in-form Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo during the January transfer window.

That is the frank verdict of former United forward Dwight Yorke, who believes Ruben Amorim's side need to sign a forward as a greater priority this month. Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled for goals this season consistently this season, with the pair finding the back of the net just five times between them in the Premier League.

As such, Yorke feels United need extra firepower up front and has suggested a move for RB Leipzig's highly rated Benjamin Sesko this month.

"Man United don't need Bryan Mbeumo, he's another winger, they need another striker," Yorke told CoinCasino.com. "I would love it if Man United went and signed Benjamin Sesko, I watched him play recently and he's a great profile. He's similar to Alexander Isak but probably cheaper.

"Sesko has a great presence up front, he's a big striker with an incredible shot on him. He's mobile too, which Man United need. Sesko would be my ideal signing for Man United. He's a proper number nine."

The 21-year-old has scored 13 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions this season and impressed for Slovenia during EURO 2024 last summer. Sesko has attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal in the past but would likely command a hefty fee to prise him away from Leipzig given he is under contract there until the summer of 2029.

United are known to be monitoring the market for potential solutions in the forward department and were keen on a loan move for PSG forward Randal Kolo Muani who looks likely to join Juventus. They are also in the market for a new left-wing-back and are in talks to sign Lecce star Patrick Dorgu. They are also one of a number of clubs keen to sign Milos Kerkez this month.
