Things couldn’t be going much worse for Manchester United at the moment - and Liverpool certainly isn’t about to make things any easier for them.

The Red Devils were humiliated once again on their own turf as they ended 2024 with a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United. First-half goals from Alexander Isak and Joelinton saw the visitors earn a deserved victory, and pile yet more misery on Ruben Amorim.

Despite the former Sporting CP boss’ appointment last month, he hasn’t been able to inspire any sort of a revival for the Old Trafford club, save for a couple of wins over Everton and Manchester City. Since his arrival, United has suffered defeats to Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Bournemouth, Wolves and now Newcastle.

The problems keep mounting up for Amorim, with his side languishing in 14th after a ninth league defeat of the season - and we’re only halfway through the season. The worst may still be to come though, with United set to make the trip to Anfield on Sunday to face Arne Slot’s all-conquering Reds.

The two sides could not be much further apart at the moment. Liverpool sits 23 points ahead of its great rival ahead of the game at the weekend, and having already inflicted a 3-0 defeat on United at Old Trafford this season, Reds fans will no doubt be expecting another big win for their side.

Liverpool.com says: Let’s not beat around the bush - United are an absolute shambles. The fact Newcastle only beat them 2-0 flatters them, as it absolutely should have been more.

You would usually look at a game between Liverpool and United and think that, regardless of either side’s form, it will be a tough and hotly-contested game. Not this time.

Liverpool should make light work of this team - and that’s not even us being cocky. The Reds are absolutely lightyears ahead at the moment, and considering what we’ve seen from both sides this season, that 7-0 win might be in danger of being beaten.
