Manchester United have appointed five new coaches who will make up part of Ruben Amorim's backroom team.

Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro and Paulo Barreira will all join the Reds from Sporting. Craig Mawson, Darren Fletcher and Andreas Georgson meanwhile will stay as part of Amorim's team having previously worked under Erik ten Hag.

Fernandes, Candido and Ferro are part of Amorim's first-team coaching set-up, while Vital is his goalkeeping coach. Barreira is a sporting scientist. Fernandes is Amorim's right-hand man and he confirmed his own exit from Sporting with an Instagram post on Sunday night after they came from behind to beat Braga 4-2.

“So many moments that I will cherish forever,” he wrote alongside a selection of pictures from his four years at the club. “There is no other feeling other than eternal gratitude towards those who helped us create something so special: players for whom there are no words, colleagues who became friends and everyone who always supported us. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.”

Amorim began work at United on Monday but is unable to take training until his visa is approved. The 39-year-old's first game in charge of the Reds will come after the international break away at Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24 (kick-off: 4:30pm).

One popular coach who has not stayed at Old Trafford under Amorim is Ruud van Nistelrooy who was not offered a role in the Portuguese manager's new setup. The former Reds striker was put in charge on an interim basis after Ten Hag was sacked last month with the former PSV boss overseeing three wins and a draw.

"To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, in particular the backroom staff, the players and the fans," he said on his X account. "I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support.

"It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach and manager, and I will always cherish the memories we have shared together.

"Manchester United will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon - not only because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it! All the best and take care, Ruud."
