Manchester United had to be driven back to Manchester after their Premier League win against Fulham.

United had planned to fly back from London but discovered early on Sunday that their flight had been cancelled due to an issue with the airline.

The majority of the United players and staff had parked at Manchester Airport in anticipation of flying home and the squad instead took a 200-mile journey back to the north west.

United arrived back in Manchester at 1.30am after a three-and-a-half-hour journey, having kicked off at Craven Cottage at 7pm. Head coach Ruben Amorim finished his press conference at roughly 9.40pm before he boarded the team coach.

Last season, United had to take the coach for their away fixture at Newcastle United after inclement weather forced the cancellation of their flight.

United fly to Bucharest on Wednesday for their final Europa League league match against FCSB. The players are training today, have Tuesday off and will train on Wednesday morning before the three-hour flight to Romania.

The team are scheduled to stay overnight in the Romanian capital and train in Bucharest on Friday to prepare for the Premier League visit of Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Lisandro Martinez's deflected pot-shot in the 78th minute secured three points at Fulham. "You need sometimes a little bit of luck," Amorim said, "and we had some games that we lost, and in the end nobody cares because the result counts.

"I remember some chances that we miss, for example against Nottingham (Forest), Bournemouth, some goals in the first minute of the game that change the game. So, today I can see it that we have a lot to improve.

"We didn’t play so well with the ball but we gave time to the team and when you do have time with talented players, they can show in one play and they can change the game and today it was that situation.

"Again, we controlled the ball, we understand the momentum. When to go a little bit slow to the throw-in, when to take a little bit of time, when you have to return to play with the central defenders.

"These kinds of details are really important to give us time to have these kinds of moments from Bruno, from Garna, from Amad. They will find a chance.

"So we need to give time for our team to find a way to win the game. It’s a little bit lucky because the kick changed direction but we had some situations in the last games that was the opposite, so it was a good day today."
