Carryduff Manchester United Supportters' Club secretary John White offers his views on the latest goings-on at Old Trafford...

TIME FOR RUBEN AMORIM TO GO...

I know a great many of you who follow my page would not be surprised if I said this is what I think. After all I have history with David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, the Not Very Special One, Ole who was well out of his depth in charge of us, Rangnick - how did he even get the job let alone any job in coaching? And Erik ten Hag.

No, nothing could be further from the truth.

It will be a big surprise for you when I say that I am fully behind Ruben Amorim and he needs time to put things right at our club where nothing appears to be right on or off the pitch.

The end of the season will be the time to judge Ruben, not now, not when he needs us to believe in the project he is in the process of developing and constructing for us. By May 2025, he will have had sufficient time to convince all Reds that he can bring the glory days and a 21st Premier League title back to Old Trafford.

January, 2025 is a crucial time for him because that is when he can offload our deadwood, Rashford, Dalot and Antony and a few others, and bring in players who want to play for the club, not treat us like a cash cow.

Today wasn’t good, far from it indeed. A 3-0 loss at home this afternoon to Bournemouth hardly inspires confidence in Ruben. The players were booed off after the final whistle and justifiably so as the fans pay their hard earned money to travel to see United play home and away. They deserve more than what the team produced today, a result that sees us lie 13th in the table.

Once again we had yet another set-piece horror show. Schoolboy errors which were preventable. Just as the players did prior to our last home defeat to Nottingham Forest Ruben had the players practising defending set-pieces during the pre-match warm-up.

Clearly the message is not getting through.

At the beginning of this month, we conceded two goals away to Arsenal from corners. Another followed in our next match, the home loss to Forest, while on Thursday, Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Hueng-min scored direct from a corner to confirm our exit from the EFL Cup.

On Sunday afternoon we conceded another goal from a set-piece when Ryan Christie floated a free-kick in to the near post after Tyrell Malacia had needlessly chopped down Adam Smith by the touchline when the ball was bouncing out of play.

Joshua Zirkzee is another one who needs to be shown the exit door next month even if it means sending him out on loan to whatever mug of a team would be willing to pay his wages.

Why is our set-piece coach Carlos Fernandes failing miserably in helping the team stop needlessly conceding goals from set-pieces which can be properly defended?

We had chances today but failed to take them but that should not take anything away from the visitors who fully deserved the three points to move up to fifth in the table for The Cherries to dream of European football next season.

I can’t even contemplate scoring any United player who turned up today, and I mean that because they certainly did not play for the jersey, higher than 4/10 for their performance in the game.

While all United fans knew there would be issues for the players adapting to a new boss who would bring in a new formation, the new manager bounce we had been hoping for from Ruben Amorim's arrival has proved to be all too brief. Christmas will not be a comfortable one for us Reds or for the players or for our Portuguese manager and his staff.

Alex Ferguson’s first 8 League games in charge resulted in L-D-W-L-D-D-W-W.

Ruben Amorim’s first Premier League games have produced D-W-D-W-L-L-W-L.

And, we all know what standing behind Fergie brought us.

So, now is the time we need to firmly stand behind Ruben Amorim and I am standing in that line in support for him.
