Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer is open to a move to a Championship club this month if a suitable offer emerges.

Collyer, 21, has only made three appearances for United this season and has not played since the 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the League Cup third round on September 17.

The midfielder was sidelined for more than two months through injury but has been named in the past four matchday squads on the bench.

United are light in midfield, with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen the alternatives to first-choice duo Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte. Head coach Ruben Amorim's decision to start Casemiro and Eriksen against Newcastle last week quickly backfired as United were 2-0 down after 19 minutes and Amorim substituted Joshua Zirkzee for Mainoo in the 33rd minute.

Eriksen and Casemiro are both likely to leave United this year. Both players turn 33 next month and Eriksen is expected to be released when his contract expires in the summer unless he is sold this month.

Casemiro has entered the final 18 months of his deal. If he is still at United beyond the current transfer window the club would require a fee of £15million to comply with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules to avoid a loss. United bought Casemiro for £60m from Real Madrid in August 2022.

Doubts have suddenly emerged over the future of Mainoo amid his unhappiness with United's proposed terms for a new contract. Mainoo has been linked with Chelsea.

Collyer signed a new contract until 2027 with United last summer and was highly regarded by former manager Erik ten Hag. The academy graduate joined the club from Brighton in March 2022.

The former England youth-teamer made his debut against Manchester City in the Community Shield and replaced Casemiro at half-time during United's 3-0 home loss to Liverpool in September.
