Alejandro Garnacho was the jewel in the crown when Manchester United won the FA Youth Cup at Old Trafford in front of 67,000 a little under three years ago.

Garnacho starred in the final, scoring twice and getting an unbelievable reception from the crowd as the team of starlets secured United’s eleventh title in the prestigious competition.

The Argentina international arrived from Atletico Madrid’s academy for a six-figure sum in 2020, and made his United debut in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea, playing the closing minutes at Old Trafford under Ralf Rangnick.

Two-and- a half seasons later, and Garnacho has more than 100 first team appearances under his belt but he's recently come under fire from portions of the fanbase amid the club’s struggle to hit a consistent run of form.

In his breakthrough season under Erik ten Hag the Argentine netted a stoppage time winner at Craven Cottage akin to his idol and former teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo’s solo effort in the 2006/07 season.

Supporters called for the winger's inclusion in the starting XI as he battled competition from Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony. Garnacho excited fans with his direct, attacking play, a style that has become synonymous with United fans through players such as Ryan Giggs and George Best in decades gone by.

Another late winner in Fergie time soon followed as he majestically curled in the goal that completed an FA Cup comeback win against West Ham, sending the Stretford End into raptures.

His finest moment in a red shirt came later that year with the goal that clinched the FIFA Puskas award, a simply breathtaking overhead kick away at Everton that emphasised his supreme talent and confidence.

Last season saw Garnacho end the campaign with 15 goal involvements, an FA Cup winner's medal and a Copa America triumph with Argentina.

And while the current campaign hasn’t been smooth sailing for the young forward, it is important to remember he is still a young, developing player trying to find his best form in a group that is struggling as a collective and a system that perhaps doesn't suit him.

Fans must allow him the chance to grow as a talent, and his role at Anfield on Sunday when he came off the bench to deliver a perfectly orchestrated pull back to Amad for the equalising goal.

It might be the best is yet to come from Garnahco, and that is an exciting prospect.
