Manchester United player ratings vs Crystal Palace with two 4/10s in Premier League defeat
Manchester United were beaten 2-0 by Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Kobbie Mainoo hit the post in the first half before Andre Onana produced a brilliant save to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta and ensure the game remained goalless at half time.
Mateta put Palace ahead shortly after the hour mark when United failed to clear a set piece and the Frenchman was on hand to tap home after the ball came back off the crossbar.
United were dealt another blow late on as Lisandro Martinez had to be taken off on a stretcher after picking up a knee injury before Mateta added a second.
Here are how the players rated at Old Trafford:
Andre Onana
Made such a good save from Jean-Philippe Mateta that the referee gave a goal kick. But his positioning was awry for Maxence Lacroix's header. 5
Leny Yoro
Positionally errant at times and should have connected with Amad's first-half cross. Got outjumped by Lacroix for the first goal. 5
Harry Maguire
Defended reasonably at first, despite United's openneess, and was a threat at set pieces. Booked for clattering into Mateta and played Daniel Munoz onside. 5
Lisandro Martinez
Had some tough tussles with Mateta and went down with a seemingly serious knee injury in the second half. Had to be carried off. 6
Noussair Mazraoui
Showed more adventure than usual in the final third but still had no discernible impact and came off after United went 1-0 down. 5
Manuel Ugarte
Battled, as always, but struggled to dominate against Jefferson Lerma and Will Hughes. Forced Dean Henderson into an early second-half save. Also booked. 5
Bruno Fernandes
Tried to make things happen but United were so blunt some of his play was for nothing. Oddly hesitated when he could have had a shot in the 73rd minute. 5
Diogo Dalot
Failed to build on his goal in midweek and did not offer any threat in the final third. Effectively playing by default amid United's left back issues. 4
Alejandro Garnacho
Had an early goalbound shot blocked and put the ball across the six-yard box only for nobody to get onto it. One of the few who played okay. 6
Amad
Could have had an assist had Yoro connected with his inswinging cross. Moved to the wing to accommodate substitutes but ineffectual. 4
Kobbie Mainoo
Started as the centre forward and started brightly, creating a chance for Garnacho and hitting the post. Faded after the first 15 minutes. 6
Subs
Rasmus Hojlund
Came on later than he should have but was unlikely to be the solution. 5
Joshua Zirkzee
Came on with Hojlund and kicked the ball out with his first action. 5
Matthijs de Ligt
Replaced Martinez after he was taken off on a stretcher. 5
Christian Eriksen
Came on late. 5
Manager
Showed more innovation with Mainoo's redeployment but United were still blunt and had two attempts on target all afternoon. Should have made a change sooner. 4
