Manchester United produced a spirited display to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Lisandro Martinez fired United into the lead early in the second half as his thunderous strike kissed the crossbar on its way into the back of the net.

United were ahead for just seven minutes thanks to Cody Gakpo’s equaliser and Mohamed Salah’s penalty then made it 2-1 to the home side after Matthijs de Ligt was penalised for a handball.

Amad swept the ball home with 10 minutes remaining to hand United an equaliser. Harry Maguire nearly won it late on but he fired over from close range with seconds of the game remaining.

Here are how the players rated at Anfield:

Andre Onana

Made a good save from Alexis Mac Allister early in the first half and otherwise had little of note to do other than pick the ball out of the back of the net. 7

Matthijs de Ligt

Front-footed and aggressive, he elicited a roar with a tackle on Luis Diaz in the first half. But he was at the scene of the crime for Liverpool's goals. 6

Harry Maguire

Showed why United regard him a leader again and why they have extended his contract. His best performance for United at Anfield, not usually a happy hunting ground for Maguire. 7

Lisandro Martinez

A more confident performance and that was exhibited by his forward charge that resulted in United's first goal at Anfield in 502 minutes. 8

Noussair Mazraoui

Showed calmness at both ends and on this occasion starting two full backs on the wings was vindicted. Often an outlet in attack. 7

Manuel Ugarte

Let off the hook early on when he should have been booked but used it to his advantage in a pugnacious performance. 8

Kobbie Mainoo

By far his best performance as a starter all season. Involved in some skilful passages of play that helped United progress up the pitch. 7

Diogo Dalot

Played an inviting cross in for Amad that the forward probably could have done better from. Had the beating of Trent Alexander-Arnold. 7

Amad

Could have adjusted to nod Dalot's cross in. Like Fernndes, diligently ran back as United switched to 5-4-1 out of possession. Made it 2-2. 7

Bruno Fernandes

Worked harder off the ball than on it as he supplemented the midfield. Nice reverse pass for Martinez to put United ahead. Influential performance. 8

Rasmus Hojlund

Squandered a one-on-one at the Kop for the second season running with a tepid shot straight at Alisson. Weakest player. 5

Subs

Alejandro Garnacho

An overdue impact off the bench to cross for Amad. 7

Leny Yoro

Great tackle. 8

Joshua Zirkzee

Created a chance for Maguire. 7

Manager

Picked a predictable team and it was vindicated. United were dogged, diligent and created chances. Garnacho made an impact off the bench. 8
