Manchester United are reportedly "aware" that Alphonso Davies is likely to rebuff any interest from elsewhere and sign a fresh deal with German heavyweights Bayern Munich.

United had been linked with the Canada international as contract uncertainty swirls surrounding the 24-year-old's future in the Bundesliga. Real Madrid have been long-term suitors of the full-back - with the Spanish giants said to be weighing up a move for the defender ahead of the expiry of his agreement in Bavaria.

In recent weeks, reports have even suggested that Old Trafford transfer chiefs had stepped up their interest in the full-back. However, a tweet from Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg may have provided a fatal blow to any summer hopes of bolstering the defensive ranks at the Theatre of Dreams.

"FC Bayern have made significant progress regarding a contract extension with Alphonso #Davies beyond 2025," the reporter began. "Negotiations are ongoing and positive, key figures already discussed. But some more details need to be clarified.

"The focus is on a new long-term contract. In terms of salary, Davies has made significant concessions to Bayern. Further crucial talks are set to take place before Christmas. Not a done deal yet.

"Manchester United are also aware that Davies is likely to sign a new contract with Bayern."

Despite the frequent reports surrounding his future at the Allianz Arena, the 24-year-old has remained focus on helping Vincent Kompany's side wrestle control at the summit of German football.

"My full focus is on this team," Davies said in August. "I'm playing here for Bayern Munich now and that's what I'm concentrating on. Regardless of whether I stay or leave, I will always carry this club in my heart."
