Manchester United star could be key to Nuno Mendes transfer deal to fix Ruben Amorim flaw
Alejandro Garnacho may hold the key to Manchester United signing Nuno Mendes and turbocharging their rebuild under Ruben Amorim.
The Reds' current squad has clearly shown to be unsuited to how the former Sporting boss wants his team to play. There have been promising signs in the win at Manchester City and during Sunday's draw at Liverpool, but the negatives have largely outweighed the positives.
One position which clearly needs strengthening is wing-back. Nuno Mendes has been a name linked with the Paris Saint-Germain defender looking perfectly suited to Amorim's 3-4-3 system.
The Manchester Evening News understands that United are not actively targeting the left-back this month. Mendes played under Amorim at Sporting.

United are expected to be in the market for a left back in the summer but Mendes is starting regularly for PSG and is under contract until 2026.
The Independent's Miguel Delaney has reported in his weekly newsletter that Garnacho has been mentioned in talks between the Reds and PSG over Mendes.
The Argentine was previously one of four players, along with Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana, deemed not for sale. But the MEN have reported this week that United no longer regard any squad member as "untouchable."
United are in desperate need of a PSR boost to help them overhaul the majority of their underperforming squad. Selling Garnacho would play a key role in this due to his homegrown status representing pure profit if he were to be sold.
Of course, on his day, the forward is still able to produce moments of magic. It should also be noted that Garnacho is still developing at just 20 years old and has plenty of room to get better.
But Garnacho is more dispensable than Kobiee Mainoo for example. His performances have been more inconsistent, and if the Reds are to successfully rebuild, tough decisions may need to be taken with player sales.
