Manchester United in talks to sign Chido Obi-Martin after Arsenal deal expires

Chido Obi-Martin is attracting interest from Manchester United after his schoolboy terms at Arsenal expired.

The 16-year-old striker, who finished last season for Arsenal’s Under-18s with 29 goals in his last 11 appearances, is also on the radar of German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Discussions with Manchester United are understood to still be at an early stage and it remains to be seen where Obi-Martin chooses to play next season.

Arsenal are expecting other departures this summer. London rivals Crystal Palace and Fulham are both chasing Emile Smith Rowe, while Reiss Nelson is a target for West Ham.

Gabriel Jesus has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia but, along with Nelson and Smith Rowe, is part of Arsenal’s squad in the USA this month for pre-season friendlies against Bournemouth, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Jesus and Smith Rowe both also played and scored for Arsenal in a 2-0 win over Leyton Orient on Saturday in a behind-closed-doors friendly held at London Colney.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has included 12 academy players in his 26-man squad for the USA tour due to senior stars being at the Copa America and Euro 2024 tournaments earlier this summer.

Aaron Ramsdale, David Raya, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are all missing the trip after reaching the final of Euro 2024. Takehiro Tomiyasu is absent due to a knee injury.

Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz will miss Wednesday’s game with Bournemouth in Los Angeles, but will join the group the following day and start training on Friday ahead of Saturday’s match against Manchester United at SoFi Stadium.

Charlie Patino was one of the most high-profile youngsters to miss out on the squad for the USA tour and is expected to leave Arsenal this summer, with interest from clubs in Spain.
