Manchester United told Diego Leon transfer truth after 'approach' for left-back
Manchester United have been linked with a transfer move for Paraguayan left-back Diego Leon, according to the latest reports.
The full-back only made his senior debut for Cerro Porteno in August but has shone in South American football leading to interest form Old Trafford. Leon made 19 appearances in all competitions for his club side in 2023/24, scoring two goals along the way.
And the Reds have now started negotiations with his club over a potential £3.1million deal. The 17-year-old would be a much needed presence in Ruben Amorim's squad as the Portuguese head coach seeks reinforcements at left-wing-back with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia having struggled with injuries.

United have now been given the lowdown on Leon's strengths and weaknesses by Paraguayan football expert Pedro Torres, who reveals that while the left-back has strong attacking qualities, he remains vulnerable defensively.
"Known for his natural offensive qualities and relentless physicality, León thrives as an attacking left-back, often cutting inside to create opportunities," he told Sport Witness.
"However, he has room to grow defensively, particularly in tracking long balls and maintaining focus during 1v1 duels with opposing wingers."
Porteno sporting director Gabriel Wainer has recently confirmed that United are front-runners to sign the teenager. "Manchester United has a clear intention to sign Diego Leon, but the paperwork has not yet been finalised," he said a press conference in Paraguay.
"Other teams have also asked about Leon in the last few hours, but the one that has shown a letter of intent, without going into detail, was Manchester United."
There is a growing confidence that United can get a deal over the line for Leon, who has already claimed he knows that United want to sign him.
"I have a huge expectation to play the Libertadores 2025," he reiterated when asked about the transfer rumours by Deportes Uno. "I've seen about Manchester United’s enquiry about me, but I don't know anything. Everything is handled by my agent."
