Marc Guehi: Newcastle and Crystal Palace in talks after fourth bid lodged for defender

Newcastle United have lodged a fourth bid for Marc Guehi, but the offer still falls short of Crystal Palace’s £65million valuation.

Palace have been steadfast in sticking to their asking price for Guehi, recently rejecting Newcastle’s third offer which was worth £55million plus a further £5m in add-ons.

Despite failing to meet Palace’s demands, Newcastle are understood to be confident in brokering a deal for Guehi. The bid was not immediately rejected and negotiations between Palace chairman Steve Parish and Paul Mitchell, Newcastle’s sporting director, are ongoing.

Guehi is happy at Palace but has not entered new contract talks over the last year, preferring to weigh up his options this summer. He was a player of interest to Manchester United, and previously Tottenham, but Newcastle are now the frontrunners to sign him and the only club in active talks with Palace.

The 24-year-old has been back in Palace training for two weeks, following an extended break after the European Championships, and is in contention to start for the Eagles when they begin the new Premier League campaign away to Brentford on Sunday.
