It's Christmas time, and unfortunately for Chelsea supporters, their team were unable to give them the perfect gift on Sunday afternoon as they were held to a goalless draw with Everton.

Chelsea fans, though, are very grateful for what they have seen up until now this season. It would have been beyond any of their wildest dreams to be second-place in the Premier League table, just four points behind the leaders going into Christmas.

That is the reality for the Blues, who have been excellent under the tutelage of Enzo Maresca. However, with the January transfer window now just a matter of days away from opening, there is an opportunity for Chelsea to improve their squad even more.

With that being said, Bobby Vincent takes a look at what would be considered the 'dream' transfer window for the club. Let us know if you agree with what Bobby has to say in the comments section beneath the article...

The reality is clear

Chelsea are the joint-second highest goal scorers - with 37 - in the Premier League at the 17-point game stage. Liverpool have also scored 37 goals - but have played a game less - while Tottenham lead the way in that department with 39 to their name.

Also, perhaps a tad surprisingly, only two teams, Liverpool and Arsenal, have conceded fewer goals than the Blues. Chelsea have let in 19 goals in their opening 17 matches of the top-flight season and while there is still some improvement required on the defensive front, that is not bad going whatsoever.

Maresca seems more than content with the squad he has at his disposal at the minute. For the most part, improvement in January is not completely necessary but there are some areas that could - and may well be - addressed next month.

A centre-back?

Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile will be out with their respective injuries until at least the New Year. We await to see how long they will be sidelined for but both have proven in the past that they are quite injury prone, so adding another central defender to the club would be smart business.

Particularly if Axel Disasi leaves, which is not out of the question. While Chelsea are not actively looking to sell the Frenchman, who can be used both at centre-back and right-back, the club could be tempted to cash in if they were to receive an attractive offer for his services.

Marc Guehi, you feel, is an obvious option for the Blues. Once of Chelsea, of course, the interest in the now Crystal Palace defender has never really gone away. However, the Eagles are not open to selling Guehi in the mid-season transfer window, and would rather wait until the summer if the England international does want to call time on his Selhurst Park career.

Players out

Meanwhile, things could be a lot busier on the outgoing front for the west Londoners. The likes of Ben Chilwell and Carney Chukwuemeka have been told they can leave by Maresca, while Disasi, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Cesare Casadei all continue to be linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are happy with their squad and the size of it, despite some people stating the player list is too large. However, with no European football now until March, there are less and less chances for Maresca to rotate as heavily as he has been doing - meaning those that are not getting enough minutes have even less opportunity now.
