Marc Guiu can feel hard done by as Chelsea star feels defining transfer period
Since coming on for the final 23 minutes of the opening weekend defeat to Manchester City, Chelsea striker Marc Guiu has not been used at all in the Premier League.
For the majority of the following league matches, the 18-year-old has not even been included in the 20-man squad. However, in the last four games, Guiu has been an unused substitute with Enzo Maresca using other options off the bench ahead of the Spaniard.
Guiu, though, has been a revelation in the UEFA Conference League, albeit against much weaker opposition. Either way, when he has been given his opportunity, the former Barcelona striker has taken it with flying colours.

A quick-fire brace away in Kazakhstan for Guiu before a wonderful hat-trick seven days later at home to Shamrock Rovers have left many supporters wanting more. Nicolas Jackson, for the most part, has been brilliant this season for Chelsea but in the last three matches, he is without a goal and has missed some big opportunities along the way.
Instead of using Guiu when Jackson was rested at Ipswich Town on Monday night, Maresca picked Christopher Nkunku to lead the line despite previously admitting the Frenchman is not a natural No.9. Nkunku's off-the-ball work is a cause for concern with many supporters criticising the Frenchman's work-rate in games - the polar opposite of what we see from Guiu whenever he is given the chance.
The teenager is a pressing machine. He is undoubtedly, from a striker's point of view, the most effective presser Chelsea currently have. Tireless, relentless and intelligent pressing from the Spaniard makes him a real nuisance to play against.
Guiu is by no means the finished article; as you would expect at the very raw age of 18. But what he is, is a really promising centre-forward with a big future ahead of him. That, however, may be away from Chelsea in the immediate future.
Chelsea do not have another Conference League match until March and even then, there is no guarantee Guiu will be a starter given the Blues will be playing stronger opposition in the knockout stage. There has been speculation that the striker could leave the club this month on a loan deal until the end of the season.
That might be the best option for Guiu's development right now. A return to Spain or even in a lower English league are options for Guiu. Whatever happens in the January transfer window, Guiu can feel a little hard done by considering he only has 23 Premier League minutes to his name this season.
