Marco Silva lamented a “cruel” result for his Fulham side as they lost 1-0 at home to Manchester United.

10th-place Fulham are enjoying a superb season but have at times been guilty of failing to make positive performances count.

Sunday night followed that script as a largely dominant display at Craven Cottage still culminated in defeat, courtesy of Lisandro Martinez’s deflected second-half strike for the Red Devils.

“Harsh, cruel for us, the result,” he said. “We were clearly the team that had more control in the first half.

“We created enough to score in the first half. The second half was more balanced, they scored a deflected goal then put 10 players around the box.

“Our pressure was really good in the first half, we didn't give anything to them. They are a strong side, we controlled that situation. The way we made the ball arrive with Emile [Smith Rowe] between the lines was good.”

Silva added: “The ball arrived in dangerous areas in the first half. I think we did it really well, but not the best night from our attacking line.”

Winger Harry Wilson was substituted shortly after the restart with an injury, and Silva and his medical staff face a nervous wait to discover the extent of the Welshman’s knock.

“We will assess Wilson, let's hope it's nothing serious,” Silva said. “We are short in that position. He twisted his ankle.”
