Marcus Rashford £50m transfer and 101-goal striker signed - Man United's dream January window

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim branded his current squad as the worst in the club's history following their 3-1 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion.

While some artistic licence may have been used by Amorim considering past teams have dropped out of the top tier, in recent history it is hard to think of a side that has struggled more. The Portuguese manager has clearly ran out of patience for this current group of players and yet another rebuild is inevitable.

The summer is the opportune moment to rebuild with games not splitting Amorim's time. But that does not mean that early housekeeping cannot take place in advance.

MEN Sport has taken a look at what constitutes the dream January transfer window for the Reds as time continues to slip away.

Rashford £50m exit

It is obvious now that Marcus Rashford's future is away from Old Trafford - the winger has said as much in the press. Hopes of playing for United again before his time is officially called seem far-fetched at best which is a shame considering some of the great memories he has given supporters.

In a dream scenario, United would seal his £50m exit this month without the need to drag this process out via a loan until the end of the season. Realistically, the most likely course of action would be a loan with an obligation to buy or a straight loan.

Securing £50m for Rashford either now, or in the future, would be a good bit of business, especially for a player who represents 'pure profit'.

David agreement

Signing one centre-forward in the summer is by no means going to solve United's striker woes. Viktor Gyokeres will be a key target in the summer but before then, the Reds could get an agreement sealed for another attacker who could provide competition.

Jonathan David has scored 101 goals for Lille at the time of writing and his time in France appears to have reached a natural conclusion. His contract expires at the end of the season so United could seal a pre-contract agreement now and bag themselves a bargain for next season.

One in and one out

Attack is of course not the only area that needs strengthening. Amorim is keen to strengthen that left wing-back position and MEN Sport understands Lecce's Patrick Dorgu is the top target for that role.

Of course, United need to sell to buy and as such Tyrell Malacia is being offered out to get this deal done. You have to feel for the Dutchman after a horror injury kept him out for the entirety of last season.

He was signed for another manager's system and has now been metaphorically placed on the scrap heap by the new boss. That's football, though, and it is a brutal business.

If United could at least add one fresh face to their squad this window, it would go some way to boosting the mood around a camp that appears divided.
