Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford sent a message of support to his teammates on Instagram after being left out of the squad to face Rangers.

The 27-year-old has dominated transfer talk throughout January after signalling his desire for a new challenge last month. Sources have clarified that the attacker has not declared himself unavailable, undertaking extra sessions, and featured in training as part of their preparations for the Scottish Premiership side.

His omission on Thursday was the sixth consecutive time that he was left out of the starting XI with his future remaining uncertain. Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan have all been rumoured to hold an interest in the England international - while Rashford has turned down approaches from Saudi Arabia and Turkey this month.

Despite being left out of the squad, Rashford was in the stands for the Europa League contest and posted to his Instagram story after kick-off. In a message to his teammates, he said: "Come on the boys."

There has been Premier League interest with Tottenham and West Ham United holding exploratory discussions with Rashford's representatives. The MEN understands that he is prepared to play as a centre forward at another club, although his best role is widely regarded to be on the left wing.

“For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps," Rashford said last month. "When I leave it's going to be ‘no hard feelings'".

"You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. "That's me as a person.

"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. "I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person.

"When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me." Rashford's last matchday inclusion came in the 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle United on December 30 after initially dropping out of the squad for the 2-1 Manchester Derby win, 15 days earlier.

The transfer window concludes on February 3 with United also facing the prospect of losing Antony and Alejandro Garnacho - with Chelsea and Serie A outfit Napoli interested.
