Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is a wanted man in the January transfer window but Premier League rules mean Chelsea won't be able to sign him on loan this month.

The England international is likely to leave Old Trafford after falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim this season. Rashford has scored eight times for United this season but he has struggled to get into the team since November.

No decision is said to be made over his future but there have been a number of reports linking him with a move in the first week of the transfer window. AC Milan and Napoli have both been credited with interest but Borussia Dortmund have emerged as one of the clubs considering a move.

David Ornstein of The Athletic has claimed that clubs in the Premier League are also weighing up an attempt to sign the 27-year-old. No club has been named, yet, but it's expected it will be one towards top of the league due to his huge wage demands.

However, Chelsea will be out of the running for a potential loan move this month due to Premier League rules transfer rules. The Blues currently have Jadon Sancho on loan from United meaning they aren't allowed to sign another player from the Red Devils on a temporary basis.

The Premier League state that 'the maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time'.

Chelsea could sign Rashford in January if it was on a permanent basis, but that is currently highly unlikely. A move away from England seems to be the likely option for Rashford, although he is reportedly keen on staying within Europe's top five nations.

Rashford gave a bombshell interview last month in which he revealed his desire to seek a new challenge away from United. "If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person.

"When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me. When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'.

You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person. For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps."
