If Marcus Rashford manages to complete a loan transfer to Aston Villa before Monday night's deadline, the club's supporters would have to wait to see their new star in action.

Villa have made significant progress in negotiations to wrap up the surprise loan capture of Rashford. Throughout the January window the 27-year-old has been attempting to plot a route out of Man United but has been unsuccessful, now he finds himself approaching the end of the saga whilst staying in England with Champions League football to enjoy, no less.

BirminghamLive understands Villa feel Rashford is open to joining the club, who will cover the majority of his wages. Final details must be arranged and conclusions drawn on other aspects of the deal that have been talked about, namely a purchase option.

Unai Emery's men are in action this weekend against West Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers, with kick-off at 5.30pm on Saturday. They have therefore missed the registration cut-off to get the Man United attacker involved.

The winter window's deadline is 11pm on Monday, February 3, and as long as Villa get everything sorted beforehand they will have a new attacker in their ranks.

The next opportunity for a debut after deadline day would therefore be the FA Cup fourth round tie with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, February 9 in front of a packed Villa Park - seemingly a perfect occasion.

Rashford lifted the trophy last season with his current club and will be motivated to do so again. There is less pressure to succeed in the cup than the Premier League or Champions League, so he would be able to settle into new surroundings with a warm welcome.

As an English top-flight opponent Spurs could provide a good test and the fact they are leaking goals for fun at the moment makes it a dream scenario for any attacker.

If he had not been exiled by Ruben Amorim there would have been the fear of the Englishman being cup-tied for the remainder of the season. As he did not play, that won't be the case.

Rashford could make his Premier League debut the weekend after on Saturday, February 15, against Ipswich Town, that being another home match.

And his Champions League debut could come on March 4/5, with the round of 16 draw not yet decided.
