Marcus Rashford remains available for selection at Manchester United and wants to play for the club.

Sources have clarified Rashford, who outlined his desire for a "new challenge" last month, has not declared himself unavailable after he was left out of the team for the ninth match running in the 3-1 home defeat to Brighton.

When Rashford's absence was raised at Ruben Amorim's post-match press conference, the United head coach said: "It's his choice."

Rashford has conducted extra training sessions to maintain his fitness but he could still leave his boyhood club before the January transfer window closes on February 3.

Tottenham and West Ham United held exploratory discussions with Rashford's representatives and the 27-year-old is prepared to play as a centre forward at another club. His best role is widely regarded to be on the left wing.

Rashford earns £325,000-a-week and United want to either sell or loan the England international this month following his public wish to leave. A sale would represent a pure profit under the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules as Rashford is an academy graduate.

United's training session on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League tie against Rangers will be open to the media for 15 minutes. The club have significantly reduced their output of training imagery and footage over the past month and Rashford was absent when a batch of photographs were released from a session on January 8.

Amorim dropped Rashford from the Manchester derby squad for the 2-1 win at City on December 15 and his only matchday squad inclusion since then was as an unused substitute in the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle on December 30.

"Guys, like you said it’s his choice," Amorim said on Sunday. "In the last games that we lost, Rashford was not here. So I don’t want to put this moment on Rashford.

"Rashford is out of this moment because he’s not playing. No matter what, I’m not going to put (in) a player that I don’t believe is the best for the team."

Rashford rejected offers from three Saudi Pro League clubs earlier this month and has no interest in a move to Turkey. Borussia Dortmund have been linked with the United academy graduate.
