Manchester United's first-team trained in cold conditions at Carrington on Wednesday.

United secured a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at the weekend and that performance against the Premier League's leaders has given fans hope for the second half of the campaign.

Ruben Amorim's side have the opportunity to build on that draw against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round this weekend and there will be a full week to prepare in training.

Amorim has reiterated the importance of having time on the training ground to drill his message into the players and the benefit of doing more work at Carrington was seen at Anfield.

So here are five things we spotted from Wednesday's training session in the cold...

Rashford not spotted

Marcus Rashford was absent against Liverpool because he was unwell. He subsequently attended the funeral of Kath Phipps on Monday but wasn't pictured in training on Wednesday.

It's possible Rashford trained and a photograph wasn't taken of him, but it seems he wasn't involved and that would be interesting given the interest brewing in this January window.

Although Rashford was welcomed back into the squad against Newcastle because Amorim's squad was weakened due to injuries and suspensions, he didn't feature in that game.

It feels like he's played his final match for the club and it will be fascinating to see whether he's named in the squad to face Arsenal, as that will give a further clue about his future.

Winter has finally arrived

Winter crept in a few months back, but the temperature in Manchester has plummeted this week and there was snow scraped to the side of the pitch as United trained on Wednesday.

Sunday's game against Liverpool was in doubt due to the difficult weather conditions and supporters who are travelling to London this weekend will be hoping there is no travel chaos.

Thick snow came down in Manchester on Thursday and the players will wear hats, gloves and snoods in training again, although Manuel Ugarte, Casemiro, Matthijs de Ligt, Tyrell Malacia, Harry Maguire, Joshua Zirkzee and and Rasmus Hojlund were the players who didn't wear a woolly hat.

The youngsters from the academy who trained - Jack Moorhouse, Elyh Harrison, Godwill Kukonki and Tyler Fredricson - also braved the bitter conditions without a hat.

What next for Collyer?

Toby Collyer was involved in the session and he is currently weighing up the next steps of his career. Last summer, Collyer signed a new contract until 2027, but he's made just three appearances this season and would be open to a move away in the January window.

The MEN were told Erik ten Hag 'really liked' Collyer and another source said that he records 'freakish' running stats in training that are only bettered by Bruno Fernandes.

United are currently light in midfield, which could open a door for Collyer, but he might depart if that opportunity doesn't come around because he is ready for regular first-team football.

The club are in a tight financial position - the profit and sustainability rules are having an impact - and the sale of academy graduates are incredibly helpful in the accounting books.

Personal touch from coaches

Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro and Paulo Barreira all made the move from Sporting Lisbon to United with Amorim and looked in high spirits on Wednesday.

The freezing cold must make their home country of Portugal feel like a world away, but they all had smiles on their faces and they seem to have a good rapport with the players.

Candido was pictured shaking De Ligt's hand and Leny Yoro was also spotted embracing a coach who had his back turned in the picture. Amorim was never going to accept the United job without his own team of coaches and they are a youthful staff who are desperate to succeed.

Harrison trains with the 'keepers

The MEN reported Elyh Harrison had been recalled from his successful loan with Chester FC on Tuesday and confirmed he would spend the remainder of the season with United.

Harrison will train with the first-team and play for the Under-21s in the Premier League 2 and he is a young goalkeeper with high potential, so he's worth keeping an eye on.

Altay Bayindir has been the subject to reports linking him away from United for a while now but it would be too soon to give Harrison the responsibility of being the No.2 goalkeeper.
