Marcus Rashford signs, Christopher Nkunku departs - Chelsea's January transfer window simulated
Chelsea have had a fantastic first half of the season, but with the January transfer window nearly here, the Blues may want to add to their squad to help build on their impressive form.
As we approach the new year, Chelsea are well and truly in the Premier League title race, with the Blues having hit their stride over the past few weeks. As well as impressing in the Premier League, Enzo Maresca's side are also top of the Conference League, and the Italian may be tempted to bring some reinforcements in to bolster his squad for the second half of the season.
Murmurs of a striker are circulating once again, while a new defender and goalkeeper may also be areas that Chelsea could improve in the transfer window. Chelsea's 2025 January transfer window simulated
To set up this simulation, we used the Football Manager 2024 editor to give Maresca full control in the 2025 January transfer window, seeing who the Spaniard would want to add to his squad. This is what happened.
Incomings (82million including add-ons)
Marcus Rashford (Manchester United) - £43million (rising to £51million with add-ons)
Marco Carnesecchi (Atalanta) - £31million
After expressing his desire for a new challenge, Manchester United's Marcus Rashford made a move to Chelsea in the January transfer window, with Chelsea spending £43million on the Englishman, potentially rising to £51million with add-ons. It seemed Rashford was signed to play as a striker and not a winger, offering good competition for Nicolas Jackson.
Maresca also brought another goalkeeper to the club, with Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi joining the Blues for £31million and instantly being made the new first-choice 'keeper.
Outgoings (£74million including add-ons)
Christopher Nkunku (Paris Saint-Germain) - £39million (rising to £44million with add-ons)
Axel Disasi (Fiorentina) - £28million
Ben Chilwell (Leicester City) - Six-month loan (£2million loan fee)
Harvey Vale (Cheltenham Town) - Six-month loan
Alex Matos (Cheltenham Town) - Six-month loan
With Rashford joining Chelsea, it was made clear that Christopher Nkunku wasn't a priority in Maresca's plans, with the Frenchman handing in a transfer request before moving to Paris Saint-Germain for £39million, potentially rising to £44million with add-ons. Another player that wasn't in Maresca's plans was Axel Disasi, with the defender joining Fiorentina for £28million.
Ben Chilwell rejoined Leicester City in the simulation on a six-month loan deal, while youngsters Harvey Vale and Alex Matos both departed on loan to Cheltenham Town for the rest of the season.
