Marcus Rashford transfer latest - Man United 'open' to sale, January exit, player stance
Manchester United appear to be open to selling Marcus Rashford next year if the right offer arrives, and might be convinced to part ways as soon as January.
The club are said to be mindful of their position within spending limits and believe his exit would free up the wage bill enough to allow more flexibility in the transfer market. United were open to offers for the 27-year-old last summer.
Since then, Rashford has been pulled up for several off-field decisions, including the visit to a nightclub after last year’s defeat to Manchester City and his time away in Belfast in January that led to him calling in sick for training prior to an FA Cup match.

This activity away from the field is a contributing factor towards the club’s openness to sell, according to one report. There are also question marks over his long-term role on the pitch under Ruben Amorim.
Rashford ‘on the market’
The Telegraph says United are open to offers for Rashford next year and cites his off-field conduct as one concern the club has. It claims staff are worried he is being distracted from his game by other activities away from work.
The door is not being closed on the attacker, who has a chance to revive his top form under Amorim, but time is very much of the essence. Rashford is only one goal away from matching last season’s tally, having scored three times in five games under the new coach.
But United are said to be conscious about the player’s big wages, which ultimately may limit his options away from Old Trafford beyond taking a pay cut. Paris Saint-Germain have formerly outlined their interest while Saudi Arabia has been touted as a possible destination.
Winter exit ‘possible’
Meanwhile, reports in Germany suggest United would be willing to take cash for Rashford in January if the right amount is tabled. His contract does not expire until 2028, so it will hold value even if he doesn’t move on mid-season.
Rashford is described as being ‘not unsellable’ despite his recent uptick in form under Amorim amid the knowledge that his exit would help United within Financial Fair Play constraints.
United recorded a loss of £113m in the year ending June 30 in September but are confident they will not breach regulations. However, spending in January is set to be limited once again amid tight margins, hence the consideration of selling Rashford.
Rashford’s stance
There is no inkling Rashford himself is pushing for a move. The forward penned a new five-year deal in 2023, having become the first United player in a decade to score 30 goals in a single season during the 2022/23 campaign.
In December 2020, the player said it “wouldn’t sit right” with him if he pulled on another club’s shirt. During the summer of 2022, he had considered leaving United “a little bit” but was convinced to stay put amid the arrival of Erik ten Hag.
Writing in the Players’ Tribune this February, Rashford said: “If you start questioning my commitment to this club and my love for football and bringing my family into it, then I’d simply ask you to have a bit more humanity.”
Then in July, he underlined how he still wishes to win silverware at United. “I still have dreams of winning the big trophies, the Premier League and Champions League with Man United,” he said.
