Marcus Rashford 'welcome at Arsenal' and the 'door is open' for move from Man Utd
Emmanuel Petit wants Marcus Rashford to sign for Arsenal “right now”.
The Gunners hero, who won the league and cup double in 1997/98, has urged Mikel Arteta to buy Manchester United’s struggling forward this summer. Petit believes Rashford is “miserable” after enduring a low-scoring season where his on-pitch performances and off-field behaviour have come under scrutiny.
While he was undoubtedly United’s star player throughout the previous 2022/23 campaign, the Englishman’s dismal form has led to rumours surrounding his potential exit in the upcoming transfer window. At 26, with his best years still ahead of him, Petit believes Arsenal is the perfect destination for Rashford to turnaround his fortunes.
The Frenchman highlighted similarities between Rashford and Kai Havertz’s gloomy three years at Chelsea. Having looked a shadow of himself in west London, the German has become a fan-favourite at the Emirates Stadium over the course of the season, netting 13 league goals.
Speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, who offer the latest Euro 2024 betting, Petit said: “I know Kai Havertz has improved massively at Arsenal, but it’s difficult to say whether Arteta could do the same with Rashford if he moved to the club.
“However, I have no doubt that Rashford needs a new start and I think Arsenal could be perfect for him. We all know the quality of Rashford for what he’s done in years at Man United, but everyone questioned Havertz and his position when he moved from Chelsea.

“Would Rashford be good at Arsenal? Give me the paper, and let me sign it for him right now!
“Rashford in a good environment would be incredible for the Gunners as they all look miserable at United. I saw what happened with the fan and I understand his frustration, so if Rashford wants to leave, he’s more than welcome at Arsenal and the door is open for him.
He added: “Havertz was in a strange environment at Chelsea and he wasn’t happy, but he has smiled at Arsenal and I can finally see his teeth - I want that for Rashford.”
Rashford had an angry exchange with a United fan before their win over Newcastle at Old Trafford last week. A fan reportedly moved down several rows to address him, saying: "If you wanna go, go", triggering the player.
Arsenal have been linked with a forward who can play in the wide positions in recent months. They are keen to add pace along the front line and cover for Bukayo Saka, though Rashford more regularly plays off the left, which is occupied by Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
Should Arteta be able to unlock Rashford’s untapped potential, the Red Devils academy graduate’s ability to beat his man and find the net would undoubtedly aid their title pursuit next season. Rashford netted a personal high of 17 league goals during the 2022/23 season and 30 in all competitions.
