The January transfer window has closed for another year, leaving clubs to lock in their teams for the remainder of the season - barring any free agent moves. Chelsea have had an unusually quiet transfer window, with the focus being on trimming the fat from Enzo Maresca's squad.

The story of Chelsea's January transfer window is all about the outgoing players, cutting the numbers and giving players who aren't trusted to start for the club the opportunity to play elsewhere. Despite links to numerous incoming players, Chelsea opted to stay quiet.

The one permanent signing for Maresca's team will be Mathis Amougou, signed for around £10 million from French club Saint-Etienne. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez have been worked hard in the first portion of the season, and it's hoped that the new man can provide cover where Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has seemingly not been trusted to do so.

Besides that, loan recalls have dominated Chelsea's incomings. Trevoh Chalobah was controversially recalled from Crystal Palace to serve as an extra defender amid injury worries to the club's backline.

Joao Felix has not done enough to challenge Cole Palmer as a forward, and departs for AC Milan on a six month loan. Ben Chilwell, out of favour with Enzo Maresca, has gone to Crystal Palace on loan.

Cesare Casadei, once considered one of Italy's top prospects in midfield, has left to join Torino for a deal thought to be around £12.5million, with a sell-on clause included in case he realises his potential in Serie A. Axel Disasi made a late loan move to Aston Villa on the evening of transfer deadline day, despite serving as a backup for the first part of the season at Chelsea.

Rumours for bigger transfers never materialised into action, with two potentially big moves for Manchester United's youngster fading into nothing. Exciting winger Alejandro Garnacho was never really needed at Stamford Bridge, with a stable of able forwards already, and Kobbie Mainoo has found new purpose in United manager Ruben Amorim's system.
