Mark Robins is being linked with a swift return to the Championship just a few weeks after being removed from his post at Coventry City.

The former Sky Blues boss saw his seven-year tenure end earlier this month with the team 17th in the table and having just lost poorly at home to Derby County.

However, before than he presided over an almost entirely upward trajectory at City, masterminding four trips to Wembley, two promotions, an EFL Trophy win and one of the most dramatic FA Cup semi-finals in recent memory. He was also a penalty kick away from taking them to the Premier League.

That has not gone unnoticed with bookmakers who make Robins the favourite to succeed Tim Walter, who has left Hull City this afternoon. The Tigers lost to Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night, have not won in nine and are now in the relegation zone with only three wins from 17 games. Coventry have four and two more points.

But it is Robins’ previous achievements at the CBS Arena – and the club’s other home venues – that makes him out as a leading candidate should Hull indeed swing the axe.

Website Gambling.com has Robins as the favourite to take over the Hull hotseat.

Hull said in a statement: “Hull City can confirm we have parted company with head coach Tim Walter with immediate effect.

“Assistant head coaches Julian Hubner and Filip Tapalovic have also left the club.

“First-team coach Andy Dawson will take interim charge while the club conducts a thorough recruitment process for a permanent successor.

“We would like to thank Tim, Julian and Filip for their efforts during their time at the MKM Stadium and wish them well for the future.”

Walter was appointed at the end of May following the controversial dismissal of Liam Rosenior, despite him leading the club to a seventh-placed finish.

Former Hamburg coach Walter managed just three wins during his 18 games in charge.
