Rangers have reportedly been dealt a blow in their pursuit of NK Osijek's Marko Soldo - with transfer rivals Dinamo Zagreb set to get a boost to their spending power.

The Croatian U21 international - who is said to be on Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen's radar at Ibrox - only left the Champions League club to join Osijek last summer, but according to reports in Croatia, Zagreb inserted a buy-back clause that becomes active at the end of the season. And with the Croatian title holders poised to bank a sizeable fee from the sale of talented midfielder Petar Sucic to Inter Milan, it could allow them to plan ahead and keep funds free to bring Soldo back to the Maksimir Stadium in the summer.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough are said to be preparing a £10million bid for Plymouth star Morgan Whittaker. Last summer, Record Sport exclusively revealed Rangers interest in the former England youth international, who bagged 20 goals in 50 games last season. And new Plymouth boss Miron Muslic has not ruled out cashing in on the attacker this month. He said: It's not about how much I want to keep him for the club it's also what's the best for Morgan. I think he's a fantastic football player.

"I like players who have ambitions and we will see then what's the best for Morgan and what's the best for us. Right now I consider him fully, fully as an Argyle player."

Boss Clement has made one signing in the January window so far with the capture of centre back Rafael Fernandes on loan from Lille. But the Belgian knows he may have to move players on before he can add to his squad further. Cyriel Dessers could yet be sold, while Rabbi Matondo and Kieran Dowell have also been told they are not in the first team picture.

But one man who is poised to depart the club is youth academy graduate Alex Lowry, with the midfielder on the brink of signing for Wycombe Wanderers. Lowry made his Light Blues debut under Gio van Bronckhorst in 2022 but has since fallen down the pecking order in Govan, with a loan spell at fellow Premiership club Hearts last season not going to plan.

The 21-year-old will hope to kickstart his career down south. Wycombe are second in EFL League One and are on course to win promotion back to England's second tier.
