Marmoush signs, Walker out, £180m spend - Man City January transfer window rated
The January transfer window is over for another year, and clubs have locked in their squads for the rest of the season. Manchester City came into the transfer window short on players and desperately short of confidence, and became the biggest spenders of the window as they try to rectify their season.

The story of City's window was largely about incoming players. Their shocking run of form in recent times had partly been blamed on injuries and Pep's preference for a small squad, with the burden shifting onto those players who remained to fill out the squad.

With a fifth successive title no longer on the cards, the goal was to arrest the decline and set up City for future success. Omar Marmoush was the headline signing, with the Bundesliga's second-top scorer arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt for £59 million. He has already slotted in well to the team, and should help to lift the burden from Erling Haaland in future.
Abdukodir Khusanov endured a nightmare start to life with City, but will likewise ease the pressure on a tired defence. Vitor Reis arrived from Palmeiras, another signing who should be able to contribute now and grow in the future.
A £50 million deadline day swoop for midfielder Nico Gonzalez will help to address the gap left by Rodri's injury, giving Pep more options to rest his leggy remaining players.
With the squad looking so threadbare, it was little surprise to see so few outgoings. The major departure was that of Kyle Walker, the club captain who had been with the team since 2017. The decorated right-back has joined Serie A heavyweights AC Milan for the rest of the season, after telling Pep that he was ready to leave.
