Newcastle United overcame League Two Bromley in the FA Cup to book their place in the last 32 of the competition.

It was a day in which the black and whites eventually got the job done after an early scare. However, the afternoon saw the Newcastle faithful make their feelings towards Martin Dubravka very clear.

With Newcastle cruising in the tie, Dubravka, who has spent the weekend in crunch talks with the club, was serenaded by the Gallowgate End. Dubravka's name was chanted loudly by fans while a rousing rendition of: "Oh Martin Dubravka, we want you to stay" left Toon chiefs in no doubt what the fanbase think of the sought-after veteran.

As talks with Al-Shabab are parked, it would be an easy win to hand Dubravka a new contract. However, on a day in which the stopper looked choked by the ovation, it was the Toon team of tomorrow that also impressed.

Stunning goals from Lewis Miley and William Osula had the crowd on their feet as Newcastle breezed past Bromley. But they did not have it all their own way.

The Magpies - attacking the Gallowgate End first - faced a Bromley side who had bodies behind the ball as the League Two side soaked up some early pressure. The first glimpse of goal from United came when Harvey Barnes skipped into the penalty area but could only brush the side netting after five minutes.

But there were shockwaves when the lower league side had the audacity to take the lead at St James' Park and make it a proper cup tie. The goal was entirely avoidable as not one but three Newcastle players dilly-dallied in midfield after keeper Grant Smith's long punt upfield.

It was Cameron Congreve who flicked the ball on for Corey Whitely, but despite being on the ground, neither Kieran Trippier, Lewis Miley, or Sean Longstaff could dispossess him. Whitely poked it through for the Congreve, on loan from Swansea, before he lashed home from 20 yards to beat Martin Dubravka low down on seven minutes.

Bromley threatened to go two up when Danny Imray burst down the right-hand side, but his effort whistled wide of the post. However, order was restored when Harvey Barnes worked the ball to Matt Targett down the left on 16 minutes after Lewis Miley had tried to unlock the Bromley defence to set up William Osula.

The left-back rolled it back to teenager Miley before he took three touches and unloaded a rising shot that flew past Smith. It was a fine strike but there was a feeling of relief rather than joy after Bromley's fairytale start.

But for all the drama that unfolded in the early stages, Newcastle hogged the ball with 83% possession. It was just a lack of clinical edge in the box that was costing them.

The two sides went in at the break with Barnes leaving the field with his head down before changes would quickly follow. Howe showed his ruthless side by taking off Joelinton and Barnes with Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon coming on.

Just a couple of minutes into the second half, Targett was chopped down in the box by Ben Thompson before referee Will Finnie pointed to the spot. Gordon took on the responsibility and beat the keeper convincingly for his seventh of the season sending the ball to the left of Smith.

Newcastle afforded themselves breathing space just before the hour after Miley intercepted a loose path before rolling it to Bruno. The Brazil star released Osula with a raking pass down the right to give the former Sheff United youngster space to run into.

Osula still had work to do, but after taking a couple of touches and a stepover or two to work his way into the box he then unleashed a thunderous strike that flew into the top corner. Osula then left the field to a warm ovation as he was replaced by Trevan Sanusi while Lewis Hall came on for Targett.

Almiron was replaced by Sandro Tonali late on but it was very much job done for Howe's side. Newcastle win eight matches in a row for the first time since the 2016/17 season.

And the run does not look like it is coming to an end any time soon with Wolves and Bournemouth on Tyneside next.
