Martin O'Neill 'lined up' as Celtic icon wanted by Rapid Bucharest in shock manager link

Martin O'Neill is reportedly being lined up for a stunning management return - with Rapid Bucharest hoping to entice the Irishman into a comeback to the dugout.

The former Celtic boss has been out of work since 2019 when he left Nottingham Forest having previously enjoyed five years in charge at the Republic of Ireland alongside assistant Roy Keane. Since then he's been appointed as chairman at the League of Manager's Association but Romanian giants Rapid are hoping to make the shock appointment.

According to Fanatik, the 72-year-old is high on their shortlist with their campaign coming to an end and O'Neill could arrive with a pre-season to get his teeth into.

O'Neill has had a varied career in management having worked with Leicester City, Aston Villa and Sunderland while he has also lifted numerous trophies at Parkhead including the domestic treble in his first of five years in Glasgow.

He also took the Hoops to the UEFA Cup Final in 2003 to narrowly lose out 3-2 to Jose Mourinho's FC Porto.
