Manchester United may again have been without Mason Mount in the matchday squad for their game against Southampton, but that did not stop the midfielder from celebrating the result on social media.

Mount, 26, has been sidelined since leaving last month's Manchester derby early in the first half with a thigh injury. Saints' visit to Old Trafford is the seventh fixture for which the former England international has now been unavailable.

Before it, head coach Ruben Amorim acknowledged that Mount should return at some point this season but stopped short of putting a timeframe on when Mount would be back. The Portsmouth-born player has missed both matches against the Saints this season but revelled in the most recent victory online.

"Get in!" Mount reacted on his Instagram story - punctuating the two-word message with a red heart emoji - after sharing United's full-time post on the platform, which the player liked, alongside team-mate Christian Eriksen and the club's former goalkeeper David de Gea. Amad, inevitably, was the focus of that graphic and is pictured celebrating one of his three goals.

Mount also showed love to the match-winner by liking his teammate's post after the match. It showed Amad raising the Premier League player of the match award while holding the game ball in his other hand.

The three-photo post also featured shots of Amad celebrating with Antony, Eriksen, and Joshua Zirkzee. Mount also liked a post from Lisandro Martinez.

"Comeback night at Old Trafford to keep on the right track!" Martinez captioned his post, adding an ogre emoji. "Well done, Amad Diallo," he said before punctuating the message to his team-mate with three football emojis.

Amad later commented on that post with two red heart emojis. Martinez also shared an image taken on the pitch after the match with his father, Raul.
