Mathys Tel Chelsea transfer stance as feelings ‘clear’ amid Arsenal and Tottenham links
Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel has ruled out a January move to Chelsea, in a boost to Arsenal’s and Tottenham’s hopes of signing him, according to reports in Germany.
The winger looks set to leave the German giants in the final days of the January transfer window after making a decision on his future. The 19-year-old has struggled for regular game time this season with Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham all named as potential destinations.
Following Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Slovan Bratislava, Tel seemed to indicate that he would be on the move by appearing to wave goodbye to fans at the Allianz Arena .

Chelsea were linked with an interest in Tel earlier in the window, with the possibility of a swap deal involving Christopher Nkunku going the other way to Bayern being spoken about. However, it was reported at the time that Tel wanted to remain with the German giants.
It now seems that he has had a change of heart and is looking to move away. But Bild report that the player is not keen on a move to Stamford Bridge due to the competition that is in the squad.
The report says: “Tel made it clear that he doesn’t want to go to Chelsea - because the competition there is just as big as in Munich. And Tel’s clear plan is: If he’s going to leave Bayern, then he wants to play!”
Chelsea have Jadon Sancho, Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto as their wide options, with Mykhaylo Mudryk unavailable through suspension. Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku are also options to support Nicolas Jackson in attack.
Tel’s stance could be good news for Arsenal who have Bukayo Saka out due to injury. That do however have Ethan Nwaneri, Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling as attacking options to support Kai Havertz up front.
Tottenham have been hit by injuries in recent weeks with Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and youngster Mikey Moor their currently only fit options to play out wide. Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner aren’t however expected to be out long with injury.
