Arsenal have turned their attention to Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel and are in 'contact' with his camp ahead of a potential move before the end of the January transfer window, according to the latest reports.

Mikel Arteta is still keen to bolster his front line ahead of Monday's 11pm deadline and Tel is being considered after he rejected a move to Tottenham. Ange Postecoglou's side had agreed a £50million move for the 19-year-old sensation, but he turned down a switch to Spurs.

And now, Arsenal are looking to win the race to sign Tel. Having expressed his desire to leave Bayern earlier in January, Tel's future has been the centre of transfer debate at Bayern and the Gunners are in the race, alongside Manchester United and Chelsea, to sign him in the next 36 hours.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are in talks with Tel's representatives over agreeing a move to north London. It's added that Thierry Henry is one of Tel's main idols and that could prove to be a pulling point to lure him to the Gunners. Ex-United star Cristiano Ronaldo is another of Tel's heroes.

While speculation has increased that Tel has a 'concrete' chance of leaving Bayern before the window closes, he could stay at Allianz Arena until at least the end of the season. "Mathys is extremely connected to the club," Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund told Sky Sport Deutschland.

"He loves being here. It's quite possible that he will still be a Bayern Munich player on Tuesday."

Tel was left out of the Bayern squad for Saturday's 4-3 win over Holstein Kiel amid increasing talk over his future. It's said that the Frenchman was reunited with his agent and family to weigh up his options.

As for Arsenal, they had been tentatively linked with move for Evan Ferguson but the Brighton & Hove Albion forward is on the verge of signing for West Ham United on loan. The 20-year-old is expected to travel to London for a medical on Sunday - less than 24 hours after coming off the bench in Brighton's 7-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Ollie Watkins is another forward that Arsenal had targeted but any move for the 29-year-old appears to be off after was taken off at half-time during Aston Villa's 2-0 defeat at Wolves on Saturday. The Gunners made a £60m bid for Watkins last week but Villa rejected it and Unai Emery confirmed that he wants to stay.
